James Steck

Coach Steck is the Sunday Head Coach at the Northern Virginia Pole Vault Club. He competed in pole vault at Virginia Tech, where he earned top-eight finishes at multiple ACC Championship meets and achieved personal bests of 5.21 meters (17’1”) indoors and 5.16 meters (16’11”) outdoors. In high school, he was a two-time New York State Champion and held his school record of 15 feet.

Coach Steck has been coaching pole vault for more than seven years, primarily at Chantilly High School, and has also worked with athletes from Centreville and Westfield High Schools. His experience includes guiding multiple district and regional champions, three all-state athletes, and three Nike Nationals qualifiers. Known for his calm, technical approach, Coach Steck focuses on helping athletes develop confidence, consistency, and a deeper understanding of the event. He currently teaches English at Chantilly High School.
